Links

Hello,

Just a little update. My name is Jane Simmons and I am the person in Durham, England who is organising the project in February. I am really looking forward to it, and to meeting you all, so starting to put this weblog together is exciting for me. I hope you are all starting to think about the visit you'll be making soon and to look forward to the week we'll spend together.

As for the blog, I have started to put some links up on the right hand side this morning. I have put them in several categories so far: general equality issues; local groups in and around Durham; Race Equality Issues; Sexual Orientation Equality Concerns; Age Discrimination Questions and Problems with Age Discrimination. I am also going to try and add some links to sites discussing gender discrimination and unfair treatment on the grounds of disabilities. I have chosen these topics as they are some of the major issues confronting those fighting for equality, and because they relate to some of the topics we will be looking at in February. However, if there are themes you would like to see represented in this blog, do write to me (at) and I will be happy to add them to the list. Also, if you find useful internet sites on the above topics while you are doing your preparation for the visit, send me the links and I will add them to my lists. They can be in your language, not just English if you think that they are helpful.

Hope this helps and look forward to hearing from you all soon,

Jane

Introduction

Hello,

This is the first post to the blog which we will hopefully be able to use for the European Project on Equality. Although the focus on the project will be the visit to County Durham, England in February, we hope that the cultural exchange will last longer than that one week and be the basis of long-lasting friendships.

This blog will serve as an information point on both Equality issues in general and some of the topics we will discuss in February, and as a reference about the week’s visit. The programme will be published here, as will the groups of people who will work together.

It would be great if we could get as many people as possible to contribute to the blog. Everyone is welcome to write posts or comments. To do this, simply send an email of the content you would like to see to equalopportunitiesforall@googlemail.com You can also send pictures as attachments which will be uploaded.

Ideally, each person taking part will write a few words to introduce themselves and maybe send a photo so you can get to know each other before you arrive. This can be arranged in your groups if you prefer. You could also write a few words about your region and include photos you have taken.

If there is anything else that you would like to see on the site, email the address equalopportunitiesforall@googlemail.com and it will be considered.

Hope to hear from you all soon.
